He doesn't have to shine shoes anymore
Best known to most of the world for his participation in the Grammy-winning Buena Vista Social Club recording in 1999, singer Ibrahim Ferrer passed away Saturday in Havana.
On his first recording as a member of the Afro-Cuban All Stars, recounted in AfroCubaWeb:
"An angel came and picked me up and said, 'Chico, come and do this record.' I didn't want to do it because I had given up on music. But now I have my own record, my first one ever, so I'm very happy. I don't have to shine shoes anymore."
