Katrina's Toxic Legacy map

I guess if WWL can host a Dallas Morning News Shockwave file and require registration, I can host the same file, and not require any at all.

Here's the "Katrina's Toxic Legacy" Shockwave map published by the Dallas Morning News using EPA data (nice shiny glass beads to sophmom for the link). It's a different version of the map produced by the National Resources Defense Council using (I presume) the same data.

This map scared me when I first saw it. I shared it, privately with a handful of folks and saved it. It seems to me that there are surprising concentrations of toxins along the edges of the flooded areas.

Schroeder,
Any idea of the lethality of these toxins? What I mean to say is, are alot of the levels for say, the Diesel fuel, negligable, or are they something to be truly concerned about? I understand it's ALL bad, but are there spots you really shouldnt be standing around for prolonged periods of time.

No idea at all Steve. All I can do is repeat what I heard someone say a few weeks ago -- if you're worried, find out where the hotspots are.
