Spirit of the season?

Preznit Bush used the occasion of the lighting the national Christmas tree last week to deliver a speech reminding Americans -- in case they forgot -- about the principles the United States of America represents:

We also remember that we have a responsibility to help those in need. America's a compassion' and generous land, and acts of kahndness toward others fulfill the spirit of the season. As we approach Christmas in this time o' war we pray for freedom and justice and peace on Earth.

... although New Orleanians and others living along the Gulf Coast might think they belong to another country altogether.
