Here's the message that accompanied the flier:
Those who keep up with the news around here know that quality child care is an enormous problem in post-Katrina New Orleans. Ten months after the storm, 80% of the child care centers in New Orleans continue to be closed in spite of an ever-increasing need for child care.
Several extremely motivated and dedicated parents took it upon themselves to create a completely new and innovative child care center, naming it Abeona House after the Roman goddess of children leaving home (yes, there was a god/goddess for everything). Abeona House was formed as a nonprofit agency with a focus on serving the child care and preschool education needs of a wide spectrum of children from all backgrounds.
Because of the enormous costs to start up a child care center, coupled with costs associated with bureaucratic regulations for such centers, Abeona House is in need of support. To that end, they are hosting their first fundraiser this Saturday, July 8, 5:00-7:00pm, at Sip at 3119 Magazine Street.
This first fundraiser will go toward funds necessary to begin operations, including purchasing supplies and equipment for children, and paying for quality staff training. I have attached their flier.
Your attendance would certainly be a delight, but any posting of the flier, forwarding of this email, donations for the associated auction, and/or future support of this vital child care endeavor would all be much appreciated.
Contact info for the fundraiser is on the flier; the Abeona House Director, Emmy O'Dwyer, can also be reached at 756-6287.

Thank you for posting this event! I'm an Abeona House parent and found the entry and your blog through a serendipitous google search. What a great pro-NOLA site! Thanks!!
Thank you for the feedback Holly. The Abeona House is a great, nourishing environment for children to be cared for. I'm glad you found my little project somehow resonated with you.
