The breath of life
In another listserv discussion about the precise moment when life begins:
The Bible says that the ability to breathe is the point at which life begins:
"Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being" (Genesis 2:7).
"Everything with the breath of the spirit of life in its nostrils -everything on dry land died" (Genesis 7:22).
"I will put tendons on you, make flesh grow on you, and cover you with skin. I will put breath in you so that you come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord" (Ezechial 37:6).
My earlier post on this topic was "The waiting room of the soul".

Very interesting. However, the fundamentalist Christians won't agree, even though they supposedly take the bible literally.
Hmm. Must be nice to have a belief/value system that is based on something other than reality.

Huh? The bible shouldn't be taken literally? It wasn't divinely inspired, with God putting a specific ordering of word in the minds of the prophets, and guiding their pens over parchment scrolls? And the translators who followed weren't absolutely sure they had picked up every nuance of meaning? And language itself is an imperfect medium of communicating the abstract?
You mean...like...we're actually supposed to think?
Sorry. Did your brain just explode?
Mine hurts...

Nothing a little leftover Homeland Security duct tape can't hold together.
Thank goodness you have some left. I put the plastic sheeting on the floor in case mine actually does explode. At least the hubby won't have as big a mess to clean up.

I find the duct tape to be a helpful containment measure. It does get odd looks, but it makes me feel like a celebrity. Now, of course, with all the different duct tape collars, its a lot easier to accessorize.
