Vitter disappointed by Bush's inaction

Senator David Vitter (R-LA) and New Orleans area business leaders have given a letter to President George W. Bush asking him to announce, immediately, unequivocal support for stronger levees that offer up to Category 5 protection, and support for federal funding to correct design flaws in the original levee system.

Vitter said that the White House has had the letter for at least a month.

When asked whether he thought the president has lived up to promises made in a televised speech from Jackson Square back in September, Vitter said, "the jury is still out, quite frankly."
