Psycho-pharmacological servility?

"There will be, in the next generation or so, a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them, but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda or brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods. And this seems to be the final revolution."

Aldous Huxley's lecture to The California Medical School in San Francisco in 1961

This brings to mind the reports I've read of chemicals like Prozac becoming concentrated in urban water systems because they can't be filtered out of waste water that re-enters the system for consumption.

Hon,

This has already taken place: started in the '50s... it called "Video Entertainment", the Boob Tube.

See? No chemicals needed, just add film, and bingo, a population of enslaved folks.

(I don't mind a movie once in a while, or Bill Maher every Friday, but these 10 hour marathons staring at the tube every night? Just shoot me!)

I wish folks would read books again.
