Et tu, Brute?

On this, the Ides of March, let's hope that the bill to consolidate the Orleans assessors into one office, written by Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-New Orleans, isn't killed in session -- especially since Civil District Court Judge Piper Griffin threw out (on ridiculous grounds) the "I.Q." (I quit) nickname for people running to get rid of the multiple assessors offices. Judge Griffin cited "a state law that allows nicknames to be listed on the ballot except when they “designate a title, designation or deceptive name” or “an occupation or professional description or abbreviation.”

Hmm ... is there anything deceptive going on if everyone knows that "I.Q." stands for an end to patronage in the assessors' offices?

Oh man -- and I just noticed that not only is it the Ides of March, but there's a full moon. Whew -- might be a good day for the superstitious to stay indoors!

Schroeder, I think you've been duped. Unless Richmond's been converted, his bill is a smokescreen to divert attention from the serious bill. He was on the committee that killed the previous bill and hes been opposed to consolidation all along.

A ha -- well then, so was the T-P.

Very interesting ...

"Richmond said if seven assessors are not needed in New Orleans, maybe all assessors' jobs should be abolished.

"It will save $6.5 million in salaries alone," Richmond said. "It is something we need to do. We have to think outside of the box to become more efficient."

Cedric Richmond is not in favor of any sort of consolidation bill. He threw that bill out there to create a stir across the state thus killing any chances of a consolidated assessor bill for Orleans Parish.

Look at the House, Ways, & Means testimony and you'll see good ole Cedric at the forefront along with Mr Heaton & Mr Arnold & Mr. Odinet bashing the testimony of those in favor of consolidation.

The Times Pic is on to this idiot Richmond I promise.
