The shuttle is back in space

May it carry its crew safely back home...

STS-114 crew

...while we remember those who went before them.

I hate to sound like this, but I'm worried that the stuff they saw flying off the shuttle is going to be dangerous when the crew comes back. I hope to dear God I'm wrong.

Fingers crossed...

I think the heaters should have taken off any heavy ice sheets.

I have to admit, the shuttle program should have been retired years ago, and frankly, I can't say I've developed any confidence in the ability of those folks over at the NASA Michoud facility in east New Orleans to honestly answer the tough questions about whether those tanks are safe to use - maybe its just the New Orleans culture, or the flaccid stories by the press on the subject.
