Make levees, not war
President Bush's record $2.77 trillion 2007 budget proposes a 34 percent cut in the Army Corps of Engineers construction budget while asking Congress for a 7 percent increase in defense spending.
Note that the budget proposal doesn't include the special appropriations the Bush administration will undoubtedly seek -- like the reported 125 billion request for additional spending in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Bush is digging an ever deeper hole in which to bury future generations -- the 2007 budget is $423 billion in the red.

It's obvious that the United States doesn't care anything about Louisiana. Do you think the French would take us back? At least the Europeans know how to build real levees, unlike the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which has been an utter disaster.
