When Clinton lied, nobody died

I saw the bumper sticker again today. How ironic -- since, as I sat down to scan the news this evening, I learned that an Army helicopter crash in northern Iraq killed 12 Americans.

With that tragic news, the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq now surpasses 2,200, and the number of injured now surpasses 16,000 -- many of them more gravely injured than in previous conflicts because improvements in emergency medical treatment can now save people from injuries that would have been fatal in previous conflicts.

Meanwhile, the Bush administration has financed the $230 billion debacle by writing an IOU to, principally, China, payable on demand by America's sons and daughters.

It's long overdue time that the press and Congress do their patriotic duty, and start using the "I" word.

It's time the rest of the nation realizes the effects of war beyond the battlefield, here at home.
