Bush calls Roosevelt an appeaser

Over in Latvia, gesturing wildly with that killer index finger, and raising his voice to prove he's macho, Bush hinted that he would have handled the Soviet Union better than Roosevelt did.

Yeah, right...

The United States couldn't have won WWII without the Soviet Union. The Nazis killed 20 million Soviets, and occupied much of its industrial territory, but the Soviets moved their factories before the Nazis could get to them, and threw millions more men into the fight. The United States suffered one-fortieth the number of casualties that the Soviet Union did. The Soviet Union demonstrated an unlimited capacity to fight. It literally broke the back of Hitler's wehrmacht on the eastern front. Had Hitler's armies not been caught in the quagmire of fighting Stalin's armies, it would have been inconceivable for allied troops to land on any beach of Europe. To even think that the United States could have confronted the Soviets on the battlefield is well beyond the fringe of lunacy and ignorance.

Was the Soviet Union led by brutal dictators? Sure. But we had our own dictators in client states we supported when it served our interests, and there wasn't a chance in hell that the U.S. could have taken on the Soviet Union.

Listen carefully to what Bush is saying. He's saying he believes that total war is a solution for all problems.

That's a fine attitude when he spent half of his time in the National Guard protecting the Texas border from the Vietcong, and the other half of his time AWOL, getting drunk in honky tonks and cheap motel bars.

I'm sure the guys who were mowed down on the beaches of Normandy, in the jungles of Okinawa, in the rice paddies of Vietnam, or in the streets of Baghdad, might speak with more measured words if they had a chance to speak for themselves.
